Though “Yellowstone” is one of the most popular series on TV, the show has found even more fans since CBS began airing repeats of the contemporary Western. Original episodes have premiered on the Paramount cable network, along with some streaming platforms. But the wide reach of broadcast TV means the CBS showings have expanded the “Yellowstone” fan base even more.
This is good news. But for new “Yellowstone” viewers, who started watching the Kevin Costner-starring show when CBS began airing it with Season 1 in September, the last few weeks have been a bit worrisome, as the series moves to a Sunday night time slot. Is missing from. CBS
But fear not, “Yellowstone” fans. Following the holiday break, “Yellowstone” will return to CBS in a big way in January 2024. Season 3 of “Yellowstone” will begin airing on Sunday, January 14, 2024 on CBS, featuring a total of three back-to-the-previous episodes.
For those who have somehow missed out on the “Yellowstone” juggernaut, the series stars Costner as John Dutton, the head of a vast ranching empire in Montana and the patriarch of a fractious family.
The cast also includes Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, Wes Bentley as Jamie Dutton, Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton, Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, and Gil Birmingham as Chief Thomas Rainwater.
According to a CBS press release, Season 3 of “Yellowstone” will run through January, culminating with a two-night season finale event. The release also says “Yellowstone” has reached “nearly 33 million unique viewers since it began airing Sundays on CBS and averaging 5.04 million viewers per episode (Nielsen Most Current Persons 2+) as the #1 entertainment program on the night.”
Here’s the schedule for the first three episodes of Season 3 on CBS: “You’re the Indian Now” airs at 8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 14; that is followed by Season 3, Episode 2, “Freight Trains and Monsters,” at 9 p.m.; and that’s followed by Season 3, Episode 3, “An Accceptable Surrender,” at 10 p.m.
Longtime “Yellowstone” fans are no doubt impatiently waiting for the series to come back and continue with the delayed final episodes of Season 5, which is also the final season of the show.
That wait is going to be a bit longer, as The Hollywood Reporter and other sources have said the second half of the fifth and final season of “Yellowstone” isn’t scheduled to return to Paramount Network and streaming platforms until November of 2024.
But even though the original “Yellowstone” will hang up its hat, spinoffs are set to continue. Already, Dutton family-adjacent series “1883″ and “1923″ have streamed on Paramount Plus. And it’s also been reported that another prequel, tentatively titled “1944,″ is coming, along with a “Yellowstone” spinoff set in the present day, with a working title of “2024.” Word is that Matthew McConaughey will star in the present-day series, which is expected to continue telling stories about the Duttons.
